House to Home: Eclectic Dining Room - August 2021 Update

I’m going to preface this post by stating that I’m an artist…and I’m sensitive about my shit. Lol! No, but seriously I am. I’ve alway been weary of allowing people to visit my home yet here I am inviting everyone on Beyonce’s Internet into my condo…

My main inspiration for this home decor series here on my blog is to be that drop of color in a sea of Restoration Hardware dupes and the “Everything Beige” aesthetic. I’m not against either (my recently re-decorated master bedroom is definitely giving neutral vibes) but I wanted my common areas to scream “LET THE FUN BEGIN!” That could mean a holiday dinner or a movie night with pizza and lots junk food.

This space was to be that of “colorful but comfortable art.” A space that inspire you and makes you want to get cozy on the couch and take nap.

I also want to share that I have found decorating my home to be very therapeutic. When I first moved into my place, I’d decided to hire an interior decorator who for the life of her couldn’t understand the look I was going for. It was at that moment that I knew I had to step out on faith and trust myself to do this on my own. With each piece that I bring into my home, I become more confident in my abilities to turn my dreams into reality. Who knew furniture and artwork could bring help with self-esteem building?

Disclosure: I only recommend products I would use myself and all opinions expressed here are my own. This post may contain affiliate links that I may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you.

Let’s start with the large wall in my dining room. I’ve written on the blog about these buffets that are a dupe for the more expensive West Elm version. The artwork are recent finds at my local Marshall’s that were posted everywhere on social media a few weeks ago. The navy bubble lamps were chosen to add a whimsical touch to the traditional buffets.

I lucked out with the gold vases from Target vases because they went out of stock soon after I purchased them. But to be fair, I’d been eyeing them for over a year before pulling the trigger. Don’t worry. Take a gander at this dupe or this one for something similar.

The fuchsia flowers are from Hobby Lobby and the Ivy Leaf garland is from good ol’ Amazon.

The faux Telfar bag was an AliExpress purchase but before you judge me, I do own an authentic Telfar shopping bag. This banana colored bag was my way pay homage to Black designers and creatives. Yes, I could have achieve the same goal with a real Telfar but I would be too tempted to wear it everyday, well unless it was a fake. So there it is.

The turquoise fish bowl? Thrifted.

The glass stone inside? Dollar Tree.

The cookbooks? Listed in the “Shop The Room” section below.

The candle holder, wooden figurine and small blue jar? All thrifted. Sorry folks, but I’m on a tight budget.

Dear Home Goods, how about a sponsorship for another room in my house? Pretty please?

The candle is one I won’t be repurchasing.

The Kelly Green package awaiting drop-off to my local USPS office is an order from my Poshmark Closet. Check it out by clicking here.

The bench is a place for my daughter to sit while we put on/take off our shoes.

The table and chairs (the set of four and the two on the end) were the first things I pushed for this space. I wanted a rich wood tone with light colored chairs, all with a Mid-Century flare. Originally I’d planned for upholstered dining room chairs but my sticky finger toddler quickly made me reconsider. Well, at least for the foreseeable future that is.

The rug could be a bit bigger but the next size was too overwhelming for the room.

Here’s a list of things I hope to update in this room by this time next year:

  1. A special (and for the time being also a secret) decorative element in the blank space between the buffets.

  2. Painting the walls. Choosing a color isn’t easy.

  3. Replace the outlet covers.

  4. New overhead lighting.

  5. A never ending supply of my home’s signature scented candle.

What’s your favorite part of the room?

What do you think i’m planning to do in that open space?
