Outfit of the Day: The Maroon Suede Dress

The Stay-At-Home order has officially expired today in Florida, however Palm Beach County was not included in Phase I of the re-opening of Florida. So what better time to get back in the habit of posting on my personal blog, eh?

It was important for this post to be an outfit of the day for three reasons:

(1) I really miss dressing up every day for work. I know some will say, “Why not dress up while you’re home?’ It’s not that easy when you’re trying to balance the needs of a two-year old, teaching online and working out daily. Ain’t no schedule over here.

(2) It’s time I clear out some of the photos on my iPhone and get these looks both on the blog and my Pinterest boards.

(3) All of my looks include at least one thrifted piece and I need to start pushing my Understated Clothing brand if I want to have a storefront one day.

Both the dress and denim jacket were Goodwill finds. I almost left the dress behind because it didn’t have anything tying up the front of the dress and the v-cut was a bit too low for me. But then I remembered that things like zippers, buttons and such are easy fixes. So please remember the same when you see a vintage piece that needs just a little bit of love. Later on I visited my local Michael’s and picked up a variety pack of black, light brown, dark brown and gray suede ribbon. Now I can switch it up to match whatever shoes I’m wearing.

I’m thinking that a jacket or flannel around the waist may become another one of my styling staples. It’s great for accentuating the waist as well as keeping warm when my classroom can run a bit on the cool side.

The brown boots have been in my closet for over a decade and it was just recently one of the soles gave way. I’m not sure if I will have the soles replaced or just retire the shoes altogether. 10 years was good run and I’m kinda in the mood for something new.

My watch is from Target and the bracelet is from a local thrift store even though I can’t recall which one.

I can’t wait to recycle this look (especially the hair!) in the Fall. The entire look just screams apple cider doughnuts and hay rides :)
